About Douglas Keck:
About Douglas Keck:
Doug was raised in Wadsworth Ohio. His life long passion for everything that flies was inherited from his dad, who was an engineer, a private pilot and lifelong model airplane fanatic.
Doug’s career in aviation began at the age of 13 when he would ride his bicycle to Skypark and Wadsworth airports in hopes of trading some sweat equity for a little flight time. After high school, he attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa Oklahoma, where he received his A&P license.
While attending school, Doug worked at Tulsa Helicopters, Tusla Rotorblades and Tulsa Heliparts. These jobs were instrumental in his success, as he learned skills ranging from parts manufacturing, to overhauling Bell and Hiller rotor blades, and even got to work side by side with more experienced mechanics performing inspections, maintenance and restoration work to a variety of helicopters.
After moving back to Ohio, he took a job at Aerodynamics at Skypark in Wadsworth, a business that he would end up purchasing a few years later while working at Skypark Flight Academy. 1st Place Aviation opened in 2000, performing everything from oil changes to complete restorations. Doug's efforts at 1st Place were recognized in Cessna Flyers Magazine, American Bonanza Society and even Model Airplane News! Though all the hard work and success, 1st Place made the difficult decision of closing its doors due to the downturn in the economy in 2010.
After closing shop, Doug
worked a variety of aircraft maintenance jobs around the country,
eventually settling in Barberton Ohio and taking a job at American
Winds Aviation, where he served as the Director of Maintenance
for their FAA part 141 flight school and part 135 charter service until June of 2015.
In May of 2014, the decision was made that it was time to go back into business for himself, and Keck Aviation was born! Starting as a mobile operation, Keck Aviation is currently able to provide services over most of Ohio, and willing to travel further for the “right” projects.
In July of 2016, we began a fixed base operations at the Wayne Co. Airport (BJJ) in Smithville Ohio. A team of three certified, experienced mechanics joined Keck Aviation to serve our customers needs.
Today, Keck Aviation is still located at the Wayne Co. Airport (BJJ) in Smithville Ohio, and growing strong. Accepting almost every client that comes through his doors, Keck Aviation will soon be the most recognized name in Ohio.
